Frequently asked questions
Hearing screenings in the workplace
The individual is placed in a soundproof booth and wears headphones to perceive pure tones, administered by an audiometer under the supervision of an audiologist. Each time a sound is perceived, the individual presses a response button. The audiometer then adjusts the sound level downwards to determine the minimum volume at which the person can hear a sound. In this way, the hearing threshold is determined for each frequency of 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 Hz for each of the two ears.
Corporate hearing screenings are generally scheduled every 10 minutes. Although the time spent inside the booth is approximately 7 minutes, a few extra minutes are allowed for set-up. It is essential to fill in the medical questionnaires in advance to avoid wasting time on the day of the hearing tests.
To minimize the impact on the operations of our customers with large numbers of employees, we deploy up to 4 soundproof booths simultaneously, enabling us to carry out up to 24 screenings per hour. For smaller companies, we can offer 1 or 2 booths to carry out 6 or 12 hearing tests per hour.
Each employee who participates in a hearing screening with Bertrand-Johnson Acoustics receives a confidential copy of his or her results, along with a brief explanation. The sealed envelopes are mailed to the company for distribution to employees, on average three weeks after the hearing tests have been carried out.
To respect the confidentiality of personal data, the company only receives summary results of hearing screenings, accompanied by general conclusions and personalized recommendations provided by the audiologist responsible for hearing tests carried out within the company.
To minimize the impact on our customers' operations, our corporate hearing screening services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The testing schedule is developed in collaboration with the client to ensure the participation of all employees included in the hearing loss prevention program, regardless of their work schedule.
